Almost everything that’s ever gone wrong in my life I can trace back to a secondhand car.

You could argue the second-hand car is a symbol of his misfortune I guess. I think he was mostly serious but also aware that its illogical to blame a specific thing for everything in his life, yet can’t really help it.
