- Questions to ponder:
- Is it racist to identify someone by the colour of their skin?
- Are there different rules depending on what the colour is? For example, is it OK to call someone a ‘white man’ but not someone a ‘black man’?
- Does it matter that the kids ‘genuinely had no clue what a white person was’? Would that make it any more or less racist, if at all?
- Does it matter whether the group in question receives ‘benefits’ like Trevor did? If so, then would Trevor receiving unwanted attention or reduced freedoms count as racial discrimination against ‘white’ people? (He of course makes it clear that he isn’t white, but mixed, which are indeed an oppressed group in general; however, in this instance, many of his peers treat him as if he is white.)
