I wouldn’t say legacy is a major theme in this play, but it is mentioned a few times and is one of the more common themes in Ancient Greek plays.
Some questions to consider:
- To what extent are the character’s emotions driven by their legacy?
- Could link this to Oedipus’ arrogance, Jocasta’s suicide, the idea of fate, etc.
- What does legacy mean for them?
- How future generations will remember them is the common one,
- But legacy is also used to describe what you leave behind, whether it is your achievements, children, etc. You can discuss Oedipus’ impact on his daughters, Ismene and Antigone in Episode 5.
